Discover the Northern Alps while trail running

When travelling through the Portes du Soleil’s domain, you can go and discover the Northern Alps during a trail run. The Portes du Soleil encompass 12 resorts, forming the biggest linked mountain-top area in Europe. Halfway between France and Switzerland, come and discover the resorts of Abondance, Avoriaz 1800, Champéry, Châtel, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morgins, Morzine-Avoriaz, St Jean d’Aulps, Torgon and Val-d’Illiez - Les Crosets - Champoussin. During the summer, close to 250 miles of marked paths await you. Spread out over 54 trails, starting from one of the 23 ski lifts open all year round, you will enjoy wandering through the heart of the Alps - with Lake Geneva and the Mont Blanc as your backdrop. The Portes du Soleil domain opens the door to mountains you can roam through right in the heart of the Alps.

The Portes du Soleil: an amazing playing field for those who love trail running

Trail running is an outside sport, practised in an exceptional setting. The mountains are filled with surprises and boast a unique fauna and flora. This is the perfect activity for enjoying the mountains’ many charms - set between peaks, pastureland and single tracks - especially during the summer. As you may have understood, the Portes du Soleil domain offers trail enthusiasts the perfect environment: no fewer than 250 miles of slopes and marked single tracks, with 54 paths winding through the entire area. With a height difference ranging from 600 to almost 10,000 ft., beginners can fully enjoy this activity as much as seasoned runners. 23 ski lifts work throughout the summer to take you up to the paths’ starting points. No more excuses, let’s get going!

Trail runs for everyone

To meet everyone’s desires and go trail running on your own, with friends or as a family, the Portes du Soleil domain offers tracks adapted to all levels and all different tastes. In the same way as ski slopes, trail paths are categorised according to difficulty. The Portes du Soleil domain counts 250 miles of paths, including: • 18 green trail paths (less than 5 miles) • 18 blue paths • 9 red paths • 6 black paths (of which Skyrun up on the ridges is available) • 2.5 vertical miles • It even has 8 competition paths. If you have a specific goal in mind and want to practice, or just for the fun of it during a weekend away, the Portes du Soleil’s paths are perfect for everyone.

Trail equipment to go with the Portes du Soleil’s colours

All 12 of the area’s sports shops sell our socks, caps, t-shirts and shorts for going running up in the mountains with all the equipment you may need.

An app dedicated to trail running

The Portes du Soleil domain has everything a trail runner could possibly need. For a worry-free session, remember to download our trail app - available on iOS and Android. The Trail Running Portes du Soleil app contains everything you need to prepare your session, and find your bearings once out. It geolocates you and helps with orientation thanks to your smartphone’s GPS. No risk of getting lost. There is also an alert function, that warns you if you stray from the path. When preparing your session, and when running, you can discover the area’s remarkable points of interest along the way. It will give you a reason to stop and gaze out at the breathtaking view for example. An emergency function is also available in the application. In the event of a problem, you can warn emergency services or text your contacts. The weather forecast and path feasibility are also indicated. You can share whatever you like on social media - so your friends and family can see what you are experiencing - as well as with the Portes du Soleil’s trail running community. The application was designed to improve and complete your trail running experience in the Portes du Soleil domain. Wait no longer before planning your next trail runs...the Portes du Soleil domain awaits you!
