Alpine skiing in the Portes du Soleil :

Guide to an unforgettable skiing experience
Guide to an unforgettable skiing experience

The Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area is the world’s first cross-border ski resort. It is also one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. Nestled between France and Switzerland, it offers majestic views and a complete change of scenery. Two nations, two currencies, two distinct lifestyles, but one melodious language and a shared passion for the mountains. What’s more, the 12 village resorts that make up this region, whether steeped in tradition or resolutely modern, have managed to preserve the charm of high-altitude living that is so characteristic of the Chablais. The special feature of this ski area is that visitors can ski from one country to another. This is a journey within a journey, beyond borders, inviting a variety of bucolic, contemplative, sporting and gastronomic experiences, suitable for young and old alike. The Portes du Soleil offers a diversity of activities and skiing styles to suit all tastes.

400km² of surface area

600km of skiing

307 slopes

Numbers aside, downhill skiing in the Portes du Soleil is an experience like no other. Thanks to 208 lifts, it’s easy to move from one country to another, from one valley to another. There are no borders and no vertical drops, just a series of twists and turns in the midst of incredible scenery. The ski area can be explored by skipping borders, allowing holidaymakers to travel with skis on their feet. #Beyond borders A journey within a journey, beyond borders, inviting you to take a stroll in the countryside, or a contemplative, sporting or tasty trip, for young and old alike… There’s something for everyone in the Portes du Soleil!

  • We continue our adventure partly on the road to Joux Plane, a legendary pass regularly used by Tour de France cyclists in summer, reminding us of the mythical and vibrant Pogacar / Vingegaard duel this summer. This brings us to the Chamossière sector, then on to Nyon, heading towards the resort of Morzine.

  • A ride on the little train and a few lifts later, we've arrived̀ on the Crêtes de Zore, with the resort of Avoriaz and its unmistakable architecture in our sights, on arrival hop a little hop into The Stash ecological snowpark. We're now just a stone's throw from Switzerland and close to the hamlet of Les Lindarets (commune of Montriond), famous for its goats in summer!

  • Follow the trail markers to the Mossettes express. At the top, a lilting accent greets you as we cross the border. A little gourmet break is in order, in the colors of the local gastronomy. Try raclette or Valais dried meat, accompanied by a glass of fendant. THE + Thanks to new facilities, the Mossettes piste has been transformed into a wide, pleasant blue run for a first descent after lunch.

  • Two bends later, the Dents du Midi, emblem of the Portes du Soleil, stand proudly in front of us, at an altitude of 3,257 metres. An inspiring, majestic view that leaves you dreaming above the resorts of Champéry/Les Crosets, and Champoussin facing the Dents Blanches. We can already imagine coming back another time to catch a glimpse of the moufflons of "Grand Paradis" and perhaps catch ourselves hurtling down the famous "Mur Suisse". But for now, we're heading for a highly symbolic place: the "Col des Portes du Soleil", from which the domain of the same name originates.

It's the perfect time to challenge your fellow skiers in schuss and make a point of arriving in pole position in Morgins! A short break in front of the Grand Tour de Suisse spot, an idyllic setting with the Dents du Midi in the background.

A nod to the nearby Swiss Portes du Soleil resort of Torgon. Our route to the resort of Châtel continues with a pleasant and technical trail, leading directly to the Linga and Plaine Dranse sectors.
