This major hike is designed for experienced hikers looking for a wild, aesthetic and challenging route along a spectacular ridge: Les Tranchants. Its alpine allure, variety of scenery and breathtaking panoramas make it one of the most striking climbs in the area.
From the hamlet of Les Crêts, the trail climbs steeply through dense forest. After a junction with the return path, it crosses a succession of clearings and reaches the chalet de l'Acquy, then a wide forest track that leads quietly to the chalets de Morzinette (1630 m), a charming alpine hamlet offering a watering hole and an already impressive view of the day's objective.
The next section is more challenging: a winding ascent through vernes and arcosses leads to a first steep valley, before climbing through dense alpine vegetation, mixed with scree and rock, to the Col du Pic à Talon (2043 m). Here, the Tranchants ridge is revealed in all its finesse. The route then climbs along the edge of this airy ridge, punctuated by small rocky outcrops, some of which can be bypassed but all of which are exposed. The terrain demands careful attention: the ground is sometimes unstable, the void present, but the technical difficulty is moderate (lower II).
The summit is reached after crossing a last small cliff, either by going around it or by a steep grassy passage. From the summit, the panorama opens up to 360°, between Mont Blanc, Dents Blanches, Dents du Midi and Vallée d'Aulps.
The descent is by the classic route: following the north-west ridge to the Chalets du Creux, then plunging into the forest on the steep Chemin du Châble. This final section is hard on the knees, but remains cool and shaded. A short traverse takes you back to the starting point.
This itinerary offers a complete adventure: immersion in nature, a physical challenge and a wealth of scenery. For experienced hikers with good footwear who are comfortable on alpine terrain.
